THE PROJECT PORTFOLIO MATRIX

Hello from TLV,

Here’s one insight from a book I have been reading.
The book is “The Decision Book: 50 Models for Strategic Thinking “.
This is part of a series of insights I will share. You can read the first one here and the second one here.

THE PROJECT PORTFOLIO MATRIX

 HOW TO MAINTAIN AN OVERVIEW

🌟 Are You a Project Juggler? 🌟

Hey there, multitasker! Are you a teacher by day, a musician by night, and a web designer in between? If that sounds like you, congrats, you're a 'slasher' (/), a term coined by Marci Alboher to describe multi-talented folks juggling different careers. But how do you keep all these projects from turning into a juggling act gone wrong?

🔍 Find Your Balance with the Project Portfolio Matrix 🔍

Enter the project portfolio matrix! It's not just about money and time; think of resources like energy, friends, and mental peace. Grab a marker, and let's classify your projects on a matrix based on two parameters: how much they align with your ultimate goals (x-axis) and how much you're learning from them (y-axis).

📈 Make Smart Choices 📈
  • The 'No-Go' Zone: If a project teaches you nothing and is off-track from your goals, it's a pass!

  • The 'Interesting but...' Zone: Learning a lot but not contributing to your goals? It's intriguing but might need tweaking.

  • The 'Delegate' Zone: Aligns with your goals but does not teach you anything new. It's time to find someone to take over.

  • The 'Jackpot' Zone: Learning and goal-aligned? You've hit the sweet spot!

Remember, every project, successful or not, deserves a proper wrap-up. So, go on, sort those projects, and keep rocking your multiple hats with style! 🎩🎸📚
